A temporary workspace, carried on USB

Start the computer another way.

Ashington OS runs from a bootable USB drive. It does not need the installed Windows system to start, and a normal session is not intended to replace or reinstall that system.

1. Insert the Ashington OS USB

With the computer off, connect the USB drive. Turn the computer on and open its one-time startup menu. The key varies by manufacturer—often F12, F9, Esc or another key displayed during startup.

Select the USB device. The computer loads Ashington OS instead of the operating system on its internal drive.

Your installed system remains in place. Choosing the USB for a temporary session does not by itself erase, repair or reinstall Windows.

2. Choose what you need

Open File

Launch UR Viewer Web directly, then choose one compatible local file.

Browse Web

Connect through KDE’s standard network controls and open Chromium.

Connect to Another PC

Reach a prepared Windows host through Remote Desktop.

Recover Files

Use a guided four-stage window to copy readable files to a separate drive.

3. Connect when the task requires it

Open Files, Browse Web and Connect to Another PC require network connectivity. If Ashington OS is not already connected, the task first presents Network & Wi-Fi and continues after a connection is established.

Recover Files is a separate local workflow. Its window stays above the persistent Ashington OS Home screen and guides source selection, file selection, destination choice, active transfer, and completion. Explore Linux Tools opens KDE Discover as a secondary utility; Games and LibreOffice are not included.

4. Shut down before removing the USB

Close active applications, safely eject other storage devices, and use the Ashington OS shutdown control. Remove the USB after the computer has powered off. On the next normal startup, the computer should return to its usual internal boot device.
